On Thursday, Union education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank announced that Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) will be conducted in more regional languages.  At present, it is conducted in three languages that are English, Hindi, and, Gujrati. From 2021 the changes could be expected as the additional regional languages would be added as said by the Union Education Minister. The decision is taken by the Joint Admission Board (JAB) in view of the new National Education Policy (NEP 2020.

The decision would definitely benefit the students who are studying in various different parts of India. India being a country with a variety of cultures and traditions and with different regional languages it is a step which is would surely give more chance to the students residing in different parts of the country. For various state board-based students this could be seen as an opportunity as it will benefit them accordingly as they are more familiar and comfortable with the regional language of their state. As the only exam conducted in 11 regional languages is the medical entrance exam that is NEET. This step would further enhance the new education policy set up. The entry to state engineering colleges would be based on the JEE examination conducted in the regional languages. For the preparation purpose of the several IIT JEE online coaching classes are also available which teaches in the regional state languages.

Several students who could not score in the examination due to the language barrier issue would also get the chance to score in the JEE Main examination. With this step, the number of participants will also increase as it will help to engage a greater number of candidates. Also, the students who have missed the JEE advanced 2020 can appear in the 2021 batch without the need to give the JEE Main examination. The decision has been taken by keeping in mind the PISA examination (Programme for International Student Assessment) where different conducting countries keep their mother-tongue as the medium of instructions.

The decision by the Joint Admission Board would help students to score higher and understand better in the examination. This would give an equal and fair chance to the students all around the country. With this, each and every student who aspires to get an admission in the choice of their engineering college would not be left due to the language as the barrier.
